Independence Course
Fly and pilot with confidence and safety. Build lasting foundations to obtain the Initial Certificate, or progress toward thermal flying.

Guided by passionate, professional instructors, you’ll progress at your own pace in an exceptional setting above Lake Annecy.
This course is for pilots who have already been introduced to paragliding and want to keep progressing and enjoying flying. It can help you validate your Initial Certificate, or simply continue progressing in paragliding. Perhaps before considering thermal flying, for those who’d like to?
Piloting technique is worked on during every flight: independence, pitch exercises, roll, 360s, dynamic turns…
In groups of 7 students maximum, the technical content of the flights is tailored to you, based on your progress.
Course Goals
- Reach a first level of independence to fly solo in calm conditions
- Improve independent decision making, anticipation, and piloting whatever your level
- Improve your theory, so don’t hesitate to come with your questions…
- Discover the flying sites of the Annecy basin!
- Obtain your FFVL Initial Certificate, on request
- Take off and land in varied conditions
Prerequisites
- Have completed an Initiation course with at least one solo flight, less than 2 years ago
- Have flown at some point in the last 3 years
Program
Each day, you’ll alternate between hands-on practice (flights and/or ground handling), theory lessons, technical briefings, and video reviews. Instructors adapt the progression to each pilot, guiding you on piloting, reading the terrain, the feel of the wing, weather analysis, and decision making.
This is a full day course, from about 8:30am to 5:30pm. We meet at our paragliding school in the morning to check everyone’s licenses and equipment, and kit you out if needed. If you haven’t flown in a while, 1 or 2 hours on the training slope may be offered.
By the day or by the week, this course will let you:
- Work on the different takeoff techniques (forward and reverse launch)
- Manage your landing independently
- Help you understand your wing’s movements through in-flight exercises (roll/pitch…)
- Start weaning off radio guidance (yes, really!)
- Take you into your first thermals!
- Teach you to fly in different aerological and geographical conditions
- Deepen your theory knowledge (flight mechanics, piloting…)
In short: leading you to independence!
